Taste local…taste Skye
Fresh local produce is something that we have in abundance in Skye and Lochalsh; our natural harvests, from sea or shore, are quite simply the finest in the world. We are justly proud of their provenance.
A renaissance of interest in good food has led many of us to 'get back in touch with nature' and to seek out food that is fresh and local; food that is sourced from responsible producers, food that has a strong identity.
For generations, the crofting communities have made a modest living from the land and sea, while respecting the natural resources of this wild and beautiful environment. We aim to continue their valuable legacy.
These strong traditions are reflected in the amazing quality and diversity of fish and shellfish that you will find on menus, or in local shops; there are prawns, lobster, crab, crayfish, periwinkles, oysters, mussels, scallops, razor fish, salmon, trout and a variety of white fish.
Locally reared meat is of the highest quality; beef, lamb, venison, poultry, ham, wild boar, bacon and a variety of hand made sausages are to be found.
Skye's excellent meat and seafood larder is complemented by a wonderful array of fresh fruits and vegetables, salad leaves and herbs, cheese from 'over the water' at Achmore, ice-cream, tablet, chocolate, water, real ales. And of course whisky - or uisge beatha - the water of life.
You will experience the traditional and the inspirational, at home or eating out. Enjoy our superb range of food in its local environment, to make the most of what we have to offer.
We can't guarantee the weather but we can assure you that there's plenty of excellent food to suit everyone's pocket and help you while away the hours. You will have a memorable experience that will linger long after your holiday is over.
Come and enjoy - how long can you stay?
Slainte Mhath!
